The school is situated in the market town of Bedale, providing education for children from a rich variety of backgrounds. We strive to provide an excellent education for all our pupils within a caring, stimulating and motivating learning environment. To help us achieve this aim staff, governors and parents work in close partnership together with added support from the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales and the local parish church of St. Gregory’s. Being a Church of England school, our ethos is embedded in Christian values which underpin all areas of school life.
Our school is a happy, thriving primary school for children aged 4-11 years old. There are over 350 children on roll across fourteen classes. In addition to our well-qualified teaching staff, we have a number of excellent learning support assistants, who work across the school supporting and enhancing children's learning where necessary.
Our Mission Statement
The values in our creative curriculum prepare children for future life, embedding a passion for reading, developing an understanding of the locality and empathy for ours and other cultures.
This is based on the Greatest Commandments given by Jesus: ' Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and with all your mind' and to ' Love your neighbour as you love yourself'.
Each day we live out these commandments through our core Christian values of perseverance, compassion and friendship.
We learn to love ourselves, each other, our community and our world.

December 2018 Ofsted Report
Our most recent (November 2018) Ofsted for Bedale CE Primary School gave Early Years provision, personal development, behaviour and welfare an outstanding grading, with the overall report grading of good. Mrs Elizabeth Turnbull was delighted saying that it reflects the hard work and dedication of staff, pupils and governors. The three inspectors concluded that, ‘the headteacher works with determination', that 'pupils’ behaviour is exemplary’ and that ‘flourishing in the positive climate created by leaders and staff, pupils enjoy coming to school’. Furthermore, inspectors noted that lessons were planned to engage and interest pupils as well as to provide them with challenge.
Academically, the results at Bedale Primary speak for themselves. By the end of the Reception Year, the proportion of pupils achieving a good level of development is well above national expectations with many exceeding in reading, writing, mathematics and communication. Year one phonics results have been consistently higher than national for over three years. The school was congratulated by MP Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Standards, for being in the top 6% and achieving so highly and in this latest report the inspectors noted that pupils’ attainment is ‘very high’.
Kate Loughlin, Chair of Governors, commented on the report, saying she was delighted that the pupils' excellent behaviour was reflected in the report.
